The Coaches


The UMCC prides itself not only on its inclusivity, but also on providing the highest standard of coaching to our members. Below is some information about our coaches.

Nigel Brown

Joe Martin

Bio: Nige is our head coach, and in 2016 won the ECB Category 1 Special Achievement Award for Coaching.

Bio: Currently studying in Liverpool, Joe is the specialist wicket-keeping coach for the UMCC.

Amal Dalugoda

Bio: Amal, from Colombo in Sri Lanka, is our spin bowling specialist. The understudy of Muttiah Muralitharan, Amal played 83 first class games in Sri Lanka with impressive stats: a batting average of 25 and a bowling average of 27. He was responsible for setting up the UMCC's first cricket tour to Sri Lanka in 2013.

Francois Haasbroek


Bio: Frankie joined the club in 2017 following his retirement from first-class cricket in his native South Africa. He works predominantly with the first team, and helped them to the BUCS Northern Premiership crown in his first season with the club.

John Abrahams


Bio: John made over 450 county appearances for Lancashire in the 70s and 80s. He captained Lancashire for the 1984 and 1985 seasons and was man of the match as he led the county to a first Benson and Hedges cup win. He joined the club following a spell as England U19 team manager.
